About SFW

Over the last two decades, software forensics analysts at Johnson-Laird Inc., and JurisLogic LLC (both based in Portland Oregon) wrote and used several tools to help compare one set of source code files against a second set of files in many software copyright infringement cases. During that time, the scale of the comparisons grew larger. Also, analysts began seeing source files whose characters were encoded in UTF-8, GB18030, and many other character sets. More simply, existing needs outgrew the capabilities of existing tools.

UsefulWorks started over with a clean-sheet design based on currently-understood requirements, resulting in Software Forensics Workbench.
